How to take care of your skin before and after the swimming pool, Part II

10/07/2019

Continued from Part I.

3. Do not let the water dry on your skin!

After a thrilling cool dive, you can be tempted to simply lie on the towel and let the sun dry your skin. This is not a good idea at all. There is a misconception that natural skin drying is beneficial, but that is simply not the case. This will only cause more dry skin. It is recommended to rinse with clean water (see Part I) and then dry with a cotton cloth. Then it's time to go back to the sunbathing, but once we apply more sunscreen with high SPF, of course.

4. Keep your skin moisturized with a cream

If your skin still feels dry and flaky after you get out of the pool, switch to a thicker moisturizer or ointment. Remember, lotions are not as moisturizing as creams, and creams are not as moisturizing as ointments. What works for one person may not work for you. Apply the moisturizing product (ointment) thickly on the skin from the neck down before going to bed in the evening.

5. Do not forget your face

Fortunately, swimming usually does not cause problems on your face. However, the water can be just as dry and irritating to the face as to the rest of your body. Hydration before and after swimming is key - and do not forget to rinse your face as soon as you leave the pool!
